History

whit2520friday2520march2520201125202528132529The current band originated from the North Middlesex Silver Band and the Enfield Band. The North Middlesex Silver Band was formed around 1911 at Enfield's famous Royal Small Arms Factory. After the war, the North Middlesex Silver and Enfield bands merged, and in 1977 became the Enfield Co-op Band. From 2000, we were known as the Whitewebbs Motor Museum Brass Band.

In November 2006, the band name reverted to "The Enfield Brass Band" as part of a move to its current home at Capel Manor College, Bullsmoor Lane, Enfield, EN1 4RQ. The association with Capel Manor has provided the band with an excellent rehearsal facility and safeguarded the financial and playing future of the band.

More recently, the band has performed at the Royal Festival Hall with cornet virtuoso Roger Webster and has won prizes at the famous Whit March band contests held annually in Lancashire

Is there a minimum playing standard for joining the band?

trombone bell1

Basic musical competency (to approximately Grade 5+) would be the benchmark although this is not an enforced or a tested standard. The ability to read music is essential.

The band is mixed ability and has to stimulate and interest all players, especially the more accomplished players. As such, it is inevitable that some of the music will be challenging. This said; much of the repertoire is comfortably within the grasp and capability of most players.

Do I have to pay to be in the band?

It is our expectation that all regular attendees will pay a subscription and in doing so become full members of the band. This small contribution helps towards the upkeep of the band and this money is mainly used to buy new music and to pay for the professional services of the Musical Director.

The current subscription rate is £7.50 per month, £5.00 for concessions. There is no joining fee.
