Meet the Band

2nd Trombone - Andrew Pimblett

Andrew began his banding career aged 11. He was supposed to learn the cornet but was handed a trombone when his tutor realised his Dad also played trombone and could help teach him to play

Differing views on the importance of rehearsal versus mucking about with your mates (Andrew not his Dad!) meant this was an arrangement that didn’t always work too smoothly in the early days. Before long though Andrew realised that he loved banding and he’s spent the ensuing 23 years honing and polishing his ability with sporadic success.

He spent his formative banding years playing with Fairfield Band in his home town of Buxton, Derbyshire and was lucky enough to help the band qualify for the 4th section National Brass Band Championship Finals two years running.

Andrew graduated from university in 2001 and got a job with a national housebuilder which required a move “dahn sarf”. He completely failed to get off his backside and find a local band to play with and so spent the better part of the decade doing little more than occasional “guest appearances” with his old band whenever he went to visit his parents. This was less an act of generosity on his part and more to do with his Dad volunteering his services on his behalf whenever they had a concert and happened to be short of a trombone.

It was in November 2009 whilst making the preparations for his wedding that Andrew became acquainted with Enfield Band’s egotistical 3rd cornet player wannabe and part time wedding photographer, Scott Collier. Scott talked Andrew into coming along to Enfield for a blow and Andrew now spends his time at Enfield trying to play the right notes in the right order while trying to keep hyper-active 1st trombone Zara playing at something approaching the right tempo.

Andrew lives in Essex with his wife Cat and Cat’s cat, Janet – which isn’t at all confusing!
